UNI is pleased to invite architects, students, engineers, designers, and artists from around the globe to take part in the Ashore Design Competition. Established in 2017, UNI is one of the world’s most prestigious architecture and design competition platform known globally.

With the increased work and busy schedule, people tend to escape their everyday life and places. As a result, ecotourism emerged aiming to provide an undisturbed experience of eco spots but the development in infrastructure tends to overwhelm the city. The incessant building is serving the contrary and there are new solutions needed to change that.

Organized by UNI.xyz, the purpose of the competition is to create a space for leisure which are vanishing with excessive commercialization by the tourism industry. While designing a leisure spot, the participants should take into consideration that the place should be evolving, universal, and in cohesion with surrounding in order to conceive growth and nature in one frame.

The design brief

The competition is an investigation of the public space and the role of the individual and the collective in the creation of an interactive and adaptive pier. It is the exploration and adaptation of pier- a functional place to get on and off boats or recreational between two entities-nature and humankind – a new kind of responsive and adaptive design is expected by the organizers.

The participants are expected to design an eco-sensitive pier that acts as a recreational sport and a viewpoint for the visitors. Uni recognizes outstanding ideas that redefine design through materials, programs, aesthetics, spatial organizations, and the implementation of technologies; along with studies on adaptability, globalization, and flexibility.

The site, program, and size of the design proposal are extensively discussed in the design brief. The key objectives are to provide maximum freedom to the participants to engage in the project without constraints in the most creative way. Some important questions raised by the challenge are: How can design help carry the subtle message of environmental awakening to the visitors? Can construction be capable of improving the condition of the existing environment? How will the aspects of functionality and aesthetics be managed to create a responsive design?

The intent of the competition

UNI is committed to continuing stimulating the imagination of designers around the world – thinkers that initiate a new architectural discourse of economic, environmental, intellectual, and perceptual responsibility that could ultimately modify what we understand as an eco-sensitive pier viewing deck, its impact on oceans ecological balance and on the humankind.

Architects, students, engineers, and designers are invited to participate in the competition. We encourage you to have multidisciplinary teams.
